Abstract

The present paper continues the authors’ concerns in the field of machining process optimization, including in the direction of machining parameters optimization. The paper develops an innovative method, via surface integrity, for determination of the technological route and the related depths of cut, in respect with machining the front faces of cast iron parts. For determining the technological route, the decisional parameter is the roughness of the surface to be machined. For the correct de-termination of the depths of cut, considering only the roughness of the surface to be machined is not enough. For the correct determination of the depths of cut related to a certain technological route, the decisional parameter must be the surface integrity. In this manner, the surface errors that appear during the casting process, as well as during machining processes might be gradually eliminated. For the practical use of this method a software module based on an ensemble of mathematical models and a small data base was conceived. A case study illustrates the modality of applying the method.
